Mutual Aid to Cummington

Plainfield Fire-EMS responds as mutual aid to deadly house fire in Cummington.

On April 28th 2023, four members of the Plainfield Fire-EMS Department responded with Tank 2 as mutual aid to a structure fire in Cummington. Other towns and agencies that responded included: Cummington, Goshen, Worthington, Ashfield, Highland Ambulance, and the State Fire Marshall.

A preliminary investigation revealed one of the occupants attempted to retrieve personal items and was unable to escape.

“If there’s a fire at home, it’s urgent that everyone get out, stay out, and call 9-1-1,” state Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey said. “A fire at home can become deadly in less than three minutes. Don’t risk your life for items that can be replaced.”
