Community Solar Opportunity
If you haven’t been able to benefit from PV directly by installing a system on your property (e.g. renter, poor roof condition/orientation, space or aesthetic concerns, or lack of financial resources), then you can still support increased use of clean solar energy in Massachusetts while saving 15% on your electric bill by participating in Community Solar.
Nexamp is one developer that is currently offering Net Metering Credit subscriptions in the Eversource-West utility zone. Nexamp’s Plainfield PV array off Union St. will be online soon. Additionally, there are many projects across Massachusetts already operating, and more in the pipeline/planning stages.
How does it work?
Nexamp allocates a portion of the project’s PV array to you based upon your annual electric bill dollar amount. Each month’s energy production causes Net Metering Credits to be applied to your Eversource bill. For each $1.00 of credit received, you will be billed $0.85, a savings of 15% (which remains constant even when the utility kWhr rates change). There is no equipment installed at your property, and no financial investment or fees. Six months notice is required to adjust the size of allocation, or to cancel the subscription contract.

Other companies are offering Community Solar subscriptions, but note that the discount rate may be lower, or more notice might be required to modify the allocation.
