The nationwide shutdown of 3G Cellular service has affected the ability of many Solar PV systems to automatically report production information to the tracking system, ultimately jeopardizing the receipt of SRECs. This page is intended to be a clearinghouse of information to help Plainfield system owners deal with this.
Since a large percentage of Plainfield systems were installed by Direct Energy Solar (DES) during our 2015 SolarizeMass program, DES’s replacement (Astrum/Omnidian) is logically involved in any hardware upgrade so that system warranty is maintained.
Some potential options:
Maintain automatic reporting
Replace meter with one supporting newer cellular technology. Currently quoted prices $800 - $1200, but an organized group negotiation could reduce contractor travel time and be cheaper.
Convert to reporting via home internet. Dependent upon existing meter model having this capability. Still requires some contractor labor.
Switch to manual (monthly) reporting
No cost involved. We will post guidance on how to do that yourself if it turns out to be the best fit for you.
